Peshawar Division : ウィキペディア英語版 | Peshawar Division Peshawar Division was an administrative division of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Province, Pakistan until the reforms of 2000 abolished the third tier of government. At independence in 1947, the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (then North-West Frontier Province) was split into two divisions, Dera Ismail Khan and Peshawar. Until 1976, Peshawar Division contained the districts of Hazara and Kohat, when they both became divisions themselves. At abolition it contained the following districts:〔( Divisions/Districts of Pakistan ) Note: Although divisions as an administrative structure has been abolished, the election commission of Pakistan still groups districts under the division names〕 * Charsadda District * Nowshera District * Peshawar District ==History== Peshawar Division was originally a district of the North-West Frontier Province of British India.〔(Peshawār District - Imperial Gazetteer of India, v. 20, p. 111. )〕 The district was administratively subdivided into five tehsils;〔(Peshawār District - Imperial Gazetteer of India, v. 20, p. 117. )〕 * Peshawar * Charsadda * Mardan * Swabi * Nowshera After the independence of Pakistan in 1947, the tehsil of Peshawar became the new district of Peshawar. At that time the old district became a division.
